stacyk:

I’m actually a fan of pop country, though (until tonight) not a huge fan of Miranda Lambert. It’s wonderful that she’s using her fame as a vehicle to speak out against Chris Brown and highlight the problem of domestic abuse in general. Think of her reach! How many young women she’s getting to when she puts this message out there!

Despite my reservations, I also really appreciate that Lambert is making a point of talking about this. I think it’s particularly awesome that she’s comfortable with telling her own story and that she uses and discusses her own experience with domestic abuse rather than feeling ashamed or hiding it. To not feel ashamed might be the hardest part of getting through it. To get through it and become a successful musician (…regardless of genre) might be the greatest advertisement that survival is possible. Good for her.
